Bluetooth does not work reliably underwater, so Shokz OpenSwim and OpenSwim Pro use local MP3 storage for swimming audio. Swimcast gives you a phone-first workflow: choose podcast episodes on iPhone, connect the headphones, sync the files, then swim in MP3 mode.
Swimcast is available for iPhone now. Android support is coming soon.
What You Need
- Swimcast on an iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
- Shokz OpenSwim, Shokz OpenSwim Pro, or a similar MP3 swim-headphone device.
- The device’s charging or data cable.
- A USB-C adapter, Lightning adapter, or hub if your iPhone needs one.
- Enough free storage on the headphones for the episodes you want to sync.
Steps
- Open Swimcast and add the podcast you want.
- Pick the episodes for your swim.
- Connect OpenSwim or OpenSwim Pro to your iPhone.
- Choose the mounted headphone folder in the iOS folder picker.
- Tap sync and wait for the transfer to finish.
- Switch the headphones to MP3 mode before swimming.
OpenSwim Pro Note
OpenSwim Pro supports Bluetooth on land, but underwater listening should use MP3 mode. Swimcast is built for that file-based MP3 workflow.
Troubleshooting
Can Shokz OpenSwim stream podcasts from iPhone underwater?
No. Underwater listening should use local MP3 files because water disrupts Bluetooth signals.
Does Swimcast work with OpenSwim Pro?
Yes, when OpenSwim Pro is connected as writable storage and used in MP3 mode.
Why do my headphones not appear on iPhone?
Check the cable, adapter or hub, power state, and whether the device appears in iOS Files. If iOS cannot show the headphones as writable storage, Swimcast cannot copy podcast episodes to them.
Can I sync Spotify or Audible directly?
Swimcast is built around podcast episode files it can download and sync. Do not expect it to bypass restrictions from closed or DRM-protected audio services.
